A seasoned entrepreneur, Avi believes that making a difference in society and to the people around us is imperative to success in business today. He has chosen to do this through the commercialization of technology and medical science. “If you can make a difference in people's lives, success is a natural outcome”. He has already successfully implemented this philosophy through his prior and present projects.
Avi recently commercialized the world’s first Hair Alcohol Test with his company, Trimega Laboratories, together with Prof. Dr. Fritz Pragst of University Hospital Charité in Berlin. This test is now accepted by and regularly used in UK courts. It keeps tens of thousands of children every year safe from the adverse consequences of parental alcohol abuse by determining whether their parents are dependent on alcohol. The same test is now endorsed and authorized by legislation in Germany, ensuring drivers who have been prosecuted for drunk driving are not alcohol dependent before being allowed back on the road.
In South Africa, Avi rolled out the first roadside drug testing project intended to make the roads a safer place for motorists. In Libya, he was engaged by the Attorney General and the Head of Civil Aviation to assist government in identifying the victims of the 2010 Libya Afriqiyah Airways flight disaster through DNA analysis. Already working on projects such as a test for fetal alcohol syndrome in new born babies and testing for ARV compliance amongst HIV sufferers in developing countries, saving lives through early detection with innovative technologies such as Mole Detective was a natural step in his commercial endeavors. Avi has a vision to grow the world’s largest mole database that can be used to inform further advances in medical science around melanoma.
Avi is also Honorary Consul for South Africa to the United Kingdom.
